Transfer Information

Common to All Transfers:
All transfers require that you appear in person at the licensed premise and that you bring a current state-issued identification (driver’s license or non-driver identification card). If your current address is not listed on your state-issued identification, you must bring an additional government document with your current address (such as a vehicle registration).

We are only legally permitted to conduct transfers for Iowa residents. We are happy to assist with shipping items to a dealer in your home state, who will complete the transfer for you.

Transfer fees are collected in cash, check, or via a variety of electronic payment methods. We do NOT accept credit cards.

There are NO EXCEPTIONS to these policies.

Title I Firearm (Most Transfers):

  • $25 per Form 4473 (up to three items).
  • $15 per Form 4473 (up to three items) for public safety and military.

The above rates assume a current Iowa permit to purchase or carry weapons. Customers requiring a NICS check will be assessed an additional $10 per transaction.

Note: Iowa Peace Officer Permits to Carry Weapons are only valid to purchase for five years from the date of issuance.

Title II Firearm (NFA Items):

  • $50 per item.
  • $35 per item for public safety and military.

The above rates include completion and submission of an ATF Form 4 for each item. For a Form 4 to be submitted, the customer must provide two completed FD-258 fingerprint cards per responsible person per item (many law enforcement agencies offer this service). Payment for NFA transfers is due prior to the Form 4 being submitted. Form 4 approval times vary. Approximate lead times can be located on the ATF NFA Division’s website, the r/NFA subreddit, or elsewhere on the internet.
